MaplePolls (maplepolls.com) is a free, independent Canadian polling aggregator. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, how it's used, and your rights under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). It is intended as a plain-language summary and is not legal advice.
Newsletter subscription — when you subscribe to the weekly digest, we store your email address and your preferred digest language (English or French). Each subscriber row also stores two random tokens used to verify the subscription and to enable one-click unsubscribe.
Browser push notifications — if you opt in via the bell icon, your browser-issued push subscription (an endpoint URL and two public keys generated by your browser) is stored so we can send notifications when a new dashboard summary publishes. No personal information is included in this subscription.
Anonymous page-view counts — when the site loads, a single field — the URL path you visited (for example "/" or "/insights") — is recorded. We do NOT record your IP address, user agent, session identifier, or any unique device identifier in this counter.
Aggregate site analytics — we use Vercel Analytics, which is cookieless and aggregate-only per Vercel's documentation. No personally identifiable information is collected through this channel.
Local browser storage — your language preference (key "mp.lang") and a notification-bell dismissal timestamp are stored locally in your browser only. These values never leave your device.
We do not operate user accounts and we do not store passwords. We do not process payments. The Patreon button on our site links to Patreon's own platform; any payment information you provide there is governed by Patreon's privacy policy.
Your email address is used solely to deliver the weekly digest you subscribed to and to send the one-time verification email. Push subscriptions are used solely to deliver browser push notifications when a new dashboard summary publishes. Anonymous page-view counts inform editorial decisions about which jurisdictions and which cards receive the most attention. Vercel Analytics provides aggregate traffic and performance metrics.
The following service providers process information on our behalf or alongside the site's operation. Each is bound by its own privacy policy.
Supabase Inc. (United States) — database hosting; stores subscriber email rows, push-subscription tokens, and anonymous page-view rows. Requests to Supabase carry the visitor's IP address as a standard hosting consequence.
Vercel Inc. (United States) — application hosting and edge delivery; sees standard request metadata (IP address, user agent). Vercel also provides the cookieless aggregate analytics noted above.
Cloudflare, Inc. (United States) — TLS termination and DDoS protection in front of the site; sees every request's IP address and user agent.
Resend, Inc. (United States) — email delivery for the weekly digest and the subscription-verification email. Resend processes subscriber email addresses and the email payload only.
Google LLC (United States) — Google Fonts CDN (fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com). Loading our fonts causes your browser to make a request to Google's servers, which see your IP address and user agent.
Anthropic PBC (United States) — large-language-model API used for polling-data extraction and editorial summary generation. Anthropic receives only public polling data, public news headlines, and summary prompts. No subscriber email, push token, page-view row, or visitor identifier is ever sent to Anthropic.
The third-party processors listed above are based in the United States. Personal information we collect may therefore be processed and stored on servers located outside Canada. While in another jurisdiction, your information is subject to the laws of that jurisdiction, which may include lawful access by foreign authorities under applicable laws.
Subscriber email rows are retained until you click the unsubscribe link in any digest, which immediately and permanently deletes the row from our database. Push-subscription rows are retained until the push endpoint becomes invalid (the subscription is automatically removed when the push service returns a 410 Gone) or until you revoke notification permission in your browser. Anonymous page-view rows are retained indefinitely for trend reporting and contain no personal information.
You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to request correction of inaccurate information, and to withdraw your consent at any time. To withdraw consent: for the newsletter, click the unsubscribe link in any digest, or email hello@maplepolls.com from your subscribed address with the subject "unsubscribe" — unsubscribing immediately deletes your row. For browser push notifications, revoke notification permission for maplepolls.com in your browser's site settings; the next push that fails will remove your subscription automatically. To access or correct other information, email hello@maplepolls.com and we will respond within 30 days as required by PIPEDA.
Privacy questions or requests can be sent to hello@maplepolls.com.
We may update this policy from time to time; the "Last updated" date below reflects the most recent revision.
